Question: What is baptism?
Answer: Baptism is the washing with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; it signifies and seals our adoption into Christ, our cleansing from sin, and our commitment to belong to the Lord and to his church.
-
Before being baptized, we ask the person a series of questions to confirm their belief in front of the church. The first two are my favorite: 1. Who is Jesus? 2. Why do you want to be baptized? The answers are always a mixture of being theologically profound, simple, and intimate. We often sense a shift from a head-level answer to a heart-level, deep love and gratitude — truth, love, and relationship in a profession of faith. Something like, “Jesus is Lord and Savior”, becomes “Jesus is my Lord and Savior who loved me and gave himself for me.” May we celebrate and hear many, many more over the years.
Last weekend some of our men got together to enjoy the common grace of BBQ and fellowship.
When we trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, not only do we become one with Jesus but we become one with his people. Membership is obeying the New Testament call to live as an accountable member of a larger family (1 Corinthians 12:12, 27). Contrary to the beliefs of our culture, we need one another. Membership is not just obedience, but it is also participating in a family, expressed in love for God and a love for others, both those within the family and those who are not. And because it is God’s good design for us to live in covenant with one another, it leads to the flourishing the church and its members. -
We believe a church is only as healthy and strong as the consistent, generous, sacrifice of its members so we love celebrating new members and last month, we had the joy of adding 14 new covenant members to our congregation.
This past Sunday we celebrated our fifth anniversary. Similar to a marriage five years in, we are just starting to see “who” we are as a church and our place in God’s story in Orange County. We have become and are becoming a congregation who is Christ-Centered, Biblically-Anchored, Culturally-Engaging, and Relationally-Driven. We’ve been a place where people have come to faith for the first time and others have rediscovered their faith; where people have used their strengths and gifts in the church for the first time and where we’ve all had other bear with one another’s weaknesses; where some have started families and others have grieved the loss of family members; where some have served the students of the continuation high school where we meet and others have served pastors and church leaders; where people have doubted and questioned and grown deeper roots in their faith.
-
We are so thankful for God’s grace and provision through the members, partners, and friends who’ve sacrificed and given to help this body flourish.
-
Thank you and here’s to year six!
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." - Matthew 28:19-20
-
Discipleship Groups start this week. As a church we want to be known for opening the Bible and opening our lives to be shaped by the Bible. These men and women will be leading this groups over the course of the next year.
-
We have multiple men's and women's groups that meet at different days and times throughout the county. To view our new Men's and Women's DGs, log into Realm and navigate to our Groups under "Community". If you're not on Realm yet, please email connect@crossofchrist.com to get set up.
Our first Men's & Women's Gatherings of the year were this week. As a congregation, we love to gather together regularly for teaching, worship, and friendship in our Men’s and Women’s Gatherings. We also scatter weekly to grow together through the Word, prayer, and applying the Gospel to one another’s lives through Discipleship Groups.
-
Our women looked at the themes of sin, suffering, weakness and damage and the men looked at what it means to live inside or God’s story.
We have baby dedications at Cross of Christ because God has commanded both parents and the church to teach our children about God. We dedicate our children because we recognize our God-given responsibility as parents, because we know that our home needs God’s help, and because we want to partner with our church family to make a commitment to raise our children in light of God’s promises.

This past month we had the opportunity to dedicate two children to the Lord and to commit to help the parents raise their children to know and love Jesus.
Merry Christmas from the Cross of Christ staff, deacons, and team leads! This group of people works tirelessly behind the scenes to set up chairs for service, plan worship, ensure there are lights and sound on Sundays, teach and pray with our kids, greet everyone with smiles, serve our community, and so much more, and they do it all with joy and humility. We’re grateful for this group of people and for everyone that has supported, prayed for, and loved our church throughout the years. From our family to yours: Merry Christmas!
